Today turned out beautifully sunny contrary to the forecast. Our ship was anchored in an old volcanic caldera and the surrounding countryside was magnificent. Lush green mountains surrounded a large Harbour full of aquamarine water and lots of wildlife.
After being tendered shore from the Century we boarded the Fox 2, an old wooden ketch. On cue as we pulled away from the dock a pod of Hector dolphins joined us and swam around and under us for endless minutes. Over a dozen dolphins played alongside while the boat played some lilting Maori music. A perfect sound track to a magical experience. As we continued to sail toward the ocean we saw many NZ fur seals, shags and a couple of blue penguins. A great wildlife experience.
